Steam Carpet pocket?

I have two rugs that need cleaning. They are not stained, a bit dirty my lab's research on in them. One type is a jute rug, 8×10, and the other is a mixture of 7×9 mixed, a little wool in it. I wondered if I could use my hand to steam, I a steamer to clean the sharks? Are they evil? If I do that, what should I use for this, just water or some sort of carpet cleaner, etc.? Steam water that I have not that which draws water back, I thought of hanging blankets on my deck railing and clean, that way the water can go as I do.
